By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI, FEB. 12. The district administration will render all assistance to those who were released from the clutches of bonded labour if they came forward to form self-help groups, the Collector, K. Manivasan said.

Speaking at a function to disburse rehabilitation assistance to a group of freed bonded labourers of Lalgudi division here on Wednesday, he said the Government would accord top priority in sanctioning loans to such SHGs.

As a first step, a revolving fund up to Rs. 25,000 would be released to each group. He called upon the bonded labourers to take advantage of the SHG concept.

The Collector said 36 bonded labourers were released recently in the Lalgudi division and the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 7.20 lakhs at the rate of Rs. 20,000 each for their rehabilitation. While Rs. 1,000 was provided as an immediate relief, the balance was being disbursed in two components. While Rs. 10,000 had been provided to the beneficiaries in the form of savings bonds, the rest was given for taking up economic activities.
