MUMBAI, FEB. 12. `Nache Mayuri' fame Sudha Chandran, who became an household name following the runaway success of her debut film, today joined the BJP in the presence of the party national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, here. Ms. Chandran, who is portraying a negative character in a popular sitcom, said ``she will play a vampish role for the Congress and a positive role for BJP'', emphasising that she would be actively canvassing for the party in the coming polls. Ms. Chandran is the second television personality to join the BJP in recent times after Smriti Malhotra-Irani, who plays an ideal daughter-in-law on the small screen. Stating that BJP provides a platform for ``anything good and positive'', Ms. Chandran said for this reason she was joining the saffron party. Describing the five-year achievement of NDA government as ``amazing'', the actress said she has great respect for Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Welcoming the actress in the party-fold, Mr. Naidu said the BJP has appealed all well-meaning persons from various walks of life to join the party and strengthen hands of the Prime Minister. ``With the joining of well-meaning people in BJP, we want to change the political campaign to the peoples' campaign,'' Mr. Naidu said. Ms. Chandran has acted in over 70 films in various languages like Marathi, Hindi, Bengali, Gujrati and Kannada and in 82 serials on the small screen.
