GULBARGA, FEB. 12. Sri Shadakshari Shivayogi Siddarameshwar Swamiji, Peetathipadhi of Mugalkod and Jidaga maths, died in the early hours of Thursday at Jidaga Math in Aland taluk here. The swamiji, who is revered by thousands of his followers, was ill for some time and had come to Jidaga Math last night after a 45-day stay in a private hospital at Hyderabad. Born in 1926 at Jamaga village in Aland taluk of Gulbarga district, the swamiji was the Peetadhipathi of Mugalkod, Jidaga, and Kotnur maths for several years before he appointed Sri Murugarajendra Swamiji as his heir to succeed him. Several prominent politicians of the State, including the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, late K.H. Patil, the Minister for Public Works, N. Dharam Singh, the former Union Minister, Basavaraj Patil Anwari, the Minister of Agriculture, H.K. Patil, and the Minister for Water Resources (Krishna Basin), Allum Veerabhadrappa, were followers of the math. The mortal remains of the swamiji will be buried at the Jidaga Math on Friday afternoon. Many senior leaders, including Mr. Singh, will participate in the last rites of the swamiji. A pall of gloom descended over the math, which was thronged by thousands of devotees of the swamiji.
