CHENNAI. FEB. 12. It was a contest where the spirit of participation won. The annual inter-orphanage sports meet for physically and visually impaired children from various institutions was held at the Varadappa Orphanage, Tondiarpet recently. About 1,500 children participated in the meet organised by the Madras West Round Table No.10 (MWRT 10) for the sixth consecutive year. "Prizes are distributed not only to winners of every event but to every child attending the meet. Transportation and lunch were provided to the children," R. Chandra Sekhar, chairman, MWRT 10, said. The day-long event featured more than 30 events, designed keeping in mind the limitations of the handicapped. Children from about 10 orphanages participated. The event that cost the organisers Rs. 75,000 was one of its kind in the city on a yearly basis, a release said.
