ANANTAPUR, FEB. 13. Sleuths of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department raided the office of the District Medical and Health Officer for the last two days here after they found some alleged irregularities in the contingency purchase of medicines, distribution of medicines received from the Central Drug Stores to the Primary Health Centres, hiring of a vehicle for health programmes among others. The team of CIs, Venganna Chowdary and Jawahar Basha, and the Agriculture Officer, Naganna, conducted the raids on the office on Thursday and Friday. They examined records pertaining to the deputation of the departmental staff, contingency purchase of medicines, hiring of vehicles for the health programmes like Sukheebhava and Pulse Polio immunisation. Besides, the enforcement sleuths were also learnt to have checked records pertaining to the engineering section of the Medical and Health Department. They were learnt to have seized some records after finding some irregularities in the said activities. The DM&HO, V. Jayashankaraiah, is on leave for about a month now after one of his relatives working in the same department was found allegedly involved in some irregularities. The enforcement sleuths also raided a rice mill in the town yesterday.
