KASARAGOD, FEB. 13. The CPI(M) politburo member, Sitaram Yechuri, has said that teachers have a vital role to play in moulding young minds to fight fascist forces that are out to destroy the nation. Inaugurating the 13the State conference of the Kerala State Teachers' Association (KSTA) here today, Mr. Yechuri said that 54 per cent of India's population constituted youth and the aim of these forces was to mislead the younger generation. He alleged that the BJP-led Government at the Centre was helping these forces to grow by even `distorting' history. Facts about the economic growth of the nation were being twisted to help the Government. The Government claim of eight per cent growth was an exaggeration, he said. Referring to the `feel good factor' being propagated by the Central Government, Mr.Yechuri said by declaring an early election, the BJP had shirked from its responsibility of presenting a full budget. He said the people were feeling good in one way that they got an opportunity to defeat the NDA Government. The association president, E.Vijayan, presided.
