TIRUCHI, FEB.13. Foundation stones for 515 works to be executed at an outlay of Rs.33.93 crores were laid and a total of 1,181 programmes, completed at an expenditure of Rs.26.10 crores in Tiruchi district, were declared open by the Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa, in Chennai recently. In a press release issued here today, the Collector, K. Manivasan, said the Chief Minister inaugurated the Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme for the residents of Amoor and 59 villages en route. Power pumps were set up for supply of drinking water to 83 habitations. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board executed the works at an outlay of Rs.3.81 crores. The Health Department had constructed 30 health sub centres at an outlay of Rs.2.82 crores. As many as 12 women's sanitary complexes, constructed at a total outlay of Rs.1.09 crores were declared open. The new bus stand, constructed at an estimate of Rs.1.99 crores, was declared open. Work on laying rural roads in 15 villages in and around Musiri at an outlay of Rs.2.72 crores has been completed. As many as 185 worksheds for self-help groups, constructed at an expenditure of Rs.1.85 crores and 189 thrashing floor for the benefit farmers set up at an outlay of Rs.1.73 crores were declared open. The works completed included additional classrooms for schools built under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, hostels constructed by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, group houses, fair price shops and community centres, the release added. On works to be taken up, the Collector said 18 hostels, nine each by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department and Backward Classes Welfare Department, would be constructed at a total expenditure of Rs.5.66 crores. The Chief Minister laid the foundation for these hostels. Two sub-stations would be set up on the East Boulevard Road and at Srirangam. While a sum of Rs.3.88 crores would be spent on the first sub-station, another Rs.3.57 crores had been allotted for the sub-station at Srirangam. The Chief Minister laid the foundation for water supply improvement works at Musiri for which the TWAD Board had allotted Rs.1.43 crores. As many as 158 women's sanitary complexes would be constructed at an expenditure of Rs.3.55 crores. The foundation stones for additional buildings for four schools to be constructed at an outlay of Rs.1.32 crores, buildings for cooperative milk producers societies, Village Administrative Officer's offices etc., were also laid.
