RSS for peaceful protest

NEW DELHI, FEB. 13. As the Shiv Sena prepared to oppose the celebration of the Valentine's Day tomorrow, the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak today disfavoured use of violence to register protest even as a student Islamic organisation dubbed the ``West-originated culture'' as a threat to religions and cultures of India.

``We oppose any violence to disrupt the Valentine Day celebrations. If somebody wants to protest, they should do it democratically and peacefully,'' the RSS spokesman, Ram Madhav, told reporters here.

The view is shared by the Students Islamic Organisation of India, whose president, Mohd Asif Iqbal, appealed to the youth to ``save India from moral and cultural decay'' and urged the students to make the occasion a ``grand failure lawfully.''
