BJP vows to defeat Congress

TIRUPATI,
FEB. 13.
The State Executive Committee of the BJP in a resolution adopted at its meeting here on Friday said that defeating the Congress in the coming election was a `historical imperative.' In its political resolution adopted in this connection at the one-day summit, the party referred to the rapid slide in the strength of the Congress in the Lok Sabha since 1996 and said that from 141 seats in 1998 election it plummeted down to a mere 114 in the 1999 election. It clearly reflected the rejection of the party's lopsided economic policies pursued during its rule, the resolution said and pledged to strive hard to further reduce the vote share of the Congress in the coming polls.
