Clear sky forecast

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. Delhi will witness another pleasant day on Saturday with the weather office forecasting a mainly clear sky following a mist or fog-laden morning. The minimum temperature is likely to hover around 8 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Friday were 25.5 and 9.6 degrees Celsius respectively, while at Palam it was 25.3 and 8.4 degrees Celsius.

Safdarjung recorded a maximum humidity of 97 per cent and a minimum of 40 per cent. At Palam, the maximum and minimum humidity were 100 per cent and 36 per cent respectively.

Minors held for robberies

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. Five minors, including a Nepalese national, have been arrested from Mayapuri in South-West Delhi on charges of their involvement in cases of burglary. Almost all the accused are dropouts from government schools. The police have recovered jewellery, three stolen television sets, a stereo system and a briefcase containing clothes at their instance.

Criminals arrested

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. Five people, who allegedly indulged in murder and robberies in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, have been arrested by the Special Cell. Five country-made firearms and live cartridges were recovered from their possession.

According to the police, four of the accused - Manoj, Prince Tomar, Rajiv and Karan were arrested from a DDA park on Loni Road this Thursday. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in at least 10 cases of murder, robbery and vehicle thefts.

Burglars nabbed

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. Three persons were arrested from Okhla in South Delhi this Wednesday on charges of their involvement in burglaries in factories. The police have recovered stolen goods worth Rs. 6 lakhs from their possession.

In an operation led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalkaji), Vijay Malik, a police team spotted a tempo moving under suspicious circumstances. The police signalled the driver to stop, but he tried to flee instead. The police intercepted the vehicle and rounded up the three occupants, from whom knives were recovered.

During search of the tempo, the police recovered 3,000 metres of export quality cloth.

Woman dies in freak mishap

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. In a freak incident, a 60-year-old woman was killed when an iron plate fell on her from an under-construction building at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi today.

According to the police, Kulwant Kaur, a resident of J-Block Khirki Extension in Malviya Nagar, was going for some work when she happened to pass by an under-construction building in her lane around 11 a.m. The labourers were taking out the shuttering from one of the five floors under-construction and one of the iron plates fell on her head. She was rushed to nearby Modi Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Stuck lift kills man

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. A 20-year-old man was killed when the stuck lift he was trying to come out from began moving suddenly at Karol Bagh in Central Delhi today.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. Vipin, a labourer employed with an auto spare parts shop at Naiwalan in Karol Bagh, was taking something to the upper floors in the lift installed in the shop. The lift suddenly got stuck. Even as he was trying to come out, the lift began moving again and he got crushed.
