Funds for literary meets promised

BANGALORE, FEB. 13. The Minister of State for Kannada and Culture, Rani Satish, has reiterated that the Government will grant Rs. 10,000 for holding Kannada sahitya sammelans at the district level and Rs. 5,000 at the taluk level.

She was inaugurating a three-day Kannada Sahitya Sammelan organised by the Bangalore Urban district Kannada Sahitya Parishat here today.

She said that despite the funds crunch, the Department of Kannada and Culture had organised several programmes for promoting Kannada language and literature.

It was all set to launch the "Manegondu granthalaya" programme (a library for each home) on February 19.
