Man arrested in murder case

BANGALORE, FEB. 13. The Bangalore city police have arrested Jestin Renold (32) of Srinivasapura in connection with the murder of Jayaraj in Mandya in 1999.

Police say Renold was arrested when he was found in suspicious circumstances in Banaswadi on Wednesday. According to them, he allegedly murdered Jayaraj by hitting him on his head with an iron rod.

House burgled: Burglars gained entry into a house in Tilaknagar on Thursday and took away gold jewellery valued at Rs. 1 lakh. Tilaknagar police have registered a case.

Suicide: Lakshmipathi (55), former councillor, reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in his house on M.V. Road in Munireddypalya on Thursday night.

Constable reported missing: A constable attached to the Shankarapuram police station, Devaraju, is reported missing since February 5. Police say he left for his village in Channapatna taluk in Bangalore Rural district but did not reach the place. His brother, Jayaram, has lodged a police complaint.

Six arrested for theft: Ulsoor police have arrested six persons on the charge of stealing copper cables and other articles. According to them, the accused, including Keshav (18) and five minors, allegedly stole phone cables.

Accident: A 48-year-old man riding a bicycle was killed on the spot when a lorry knocked down the vehicle on Ullal Road in Jnanabharathi police limits this morning. Police identified him as Cariappa of BEML Layout.

Fatal fall: Amai Raj (40), a lift operator in a seven-star hotel, died when he fell down a lift shaft on Friday evening. A case has been registered.

Fake CDs seized: The City Crime Branch (CCB) arrested nine persons during a raid on several shops in Upparpet and Ulsoor Gate police limits where fake CD and MP3 players were allegedly being sold.

Convicted: The 13th Additional Sessions Judge here has sentenced M. Appanna, a former resident engineer, Karnataka State Construction Corporation, to rigorous imprisonment for four years for demanding bribes for passing the bills of a contractor.
