Vinuthna is sole leader

HYDERABAD, FEB. 14. N. Vinuthna of Andhra Pradesh emerged sole leader with 6.5 points at the end of the seventh round of the National junior chess championship for boys and girls (under-18 years) being held at Gowtham Model School here today.

On the second board, Vinuthna opted for the Ruy-Lopez opening against R. Gomathey to get equality with black pieces on the 10th move. Later, to the delight of the local girl, Gomathey played a weak 20th move, which badly weakened her position. Never Vinuthna quickly forced an exchange and wrapped up the game in 58 moves.

In the boys' section, Arun Prasad outplayed T. Abbay in 24 moves to be the sole leader with six points from seven rounds.
