KOZHIKODE, FEB. 14. Several Hindu organisations under the banner of the Hindu Aikya Vedi have decided to intensify their agitation demanding a CBI probe into the May 2 massacre at Marad. Briefing mediapersons about the decisions taken at a convention of leaders of Hindu organisations here today, the Hindu Aikya Vedi State president, J. Shishupalan, and the Marad Araya Samajam secretary, T. Suresh, said that their activists would observe a `Hindu Betrayal Day' on March 5 against the Government's soft-pedalling on the `promised' CBI probe into the incident. Black flag demonstration would be held in all the districts of the State on that day. House-to-house campaigns would also be held from March 1 to March 5. More agitations, including a yatra from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, has been planned to press for a CBI inquiry into the murders. Mr. Shishupalan said that the State Government had failed to initiate any step in ordering a CBI probe although the Advocate General had given his legal opinion on the matter months ago. The CBI probe into the Marad incident was one of the agreements reached between the Hindu and Muslim organisations during the peace talks held in the presence of the noted Gandhian, P. Gopinathan Nair, in Kozhikode five months ago. But till now nothing fruitful had taken place in this regard, he said. He said that the Government's refusal to disclose the Intelligence reports collected by the Police Department in connection with the incident also vindicated the apprehensions the Hindu organisations had raised earlier about the independent functioning of the Marad Judicial Inquiry Commission. By seeking legal measures against making the Intelligence reports public, the State Government wanted to hide something from the people, Mr. Shishupalan charged. The Sree Ramakrishna Ashram Madathipathi, Swami Golokananda, inaugurated the convention. The NSS director board member, K. Prabakaran Nair, the Dheevara Sabha president, K. Sudhakaran, the National Adivasi Federation national president, T.K. Bhaskaran, the Brahmana Sabha regional president, Balagovidnan, the Malabar Temple Trust president, P.T.S. Unni, and the RSS leader, A.R. Mohanan, among others participated in the convention.
