JAIPUR, FEB. 14. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government in Rajasthan will make primary education compulsory for children. A Bill for the purpose would be tabled in the next session of the Assembly, the Education Minister, Ghanshyam Tiwari, announced in Ajmer over the week-end. Inaugurating a teachers' conference organised by the Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh, Mr. Tiwari also announced that the process for appointing 30,000 regular teachers would begin shortly and the number of Government middle schools would be increased significantly. Mr. Tiwari called upon the teachers to extend cooperation in educating nearly 1.10-crore children between 6 and 14 years who were still deprived of formal schooling. He said the teachers preventing the dropout of students from schools would be felicitated. The Minister said the Rajiv Gandhi golden jubilee schools opened by the previous Congress regime would be converted into regular schools and 30,000 new schools would be opened to promote education. Besides, attempts were being made to supply text-books free of cost to students till the 12th standard.
