NEW DELHI, FEB. 14. In a major boost to its maintenance operations, the Indian Airlines has received the approval of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to carry out the maintenance and repairs of the Airbus A-320 aircraft at Mumbai. The approval granted by the Director of Airworthiness will enlarge the range of engineering activities of the airline at Mumbai. The region, which had so far been handling the maintenance work on Airbus A-300 aircraft (phased out since), will utilise its facilities for A-320 aircraft. The aircraft maintenance and repairs for A-320, owned by the IA, was being carried out so far at its engineering base at Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi. The Indian Airlines has inducted 11 more A-320s on lease and plans to induct four more of these by June this year. The setting up of another base for A-320 to handle the workload independently will enhance the capability of the carrier to utilise the available infrastructure and resources more effectively.
