HYDERABAD, FEB. 14. Karnataka, with three gold and three bronze medals in the eight finals, emerged on top on the first day of the two-day Federation Cup taekwondo championship 2004, which was inaugurated by Mr. P.N.V. Prasad, Chairman of SAAP, at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Saturday. The gold medallists for Karnataka were K. Prakruthi in the Finweight class and M.C. Sowmya in the lightweight class among women. In the men's category, Rupen Pradhan gave Karnataka the third gold. In the final, Prakurthi defeated S. Geetarani Devi of Manipur by an 8-2 points verdict. The bronze medallists for Karnataka were 21-year-old Ibrahim Khan in the men's lightweight category and Pankaj Dhir, originally from Punjab who is representing Karnataka in the bantamweight class. In the women's category, B.G. Sharmila won a bronze in the bantamweight class.
