MADURAI, FEB. 14. More than 5,000 surgeries were being performed at the Government Rajaji Hospital here per annum, its Dean (in-charge), K. Bose, said yesterday. Inaugurating a continuing medical education (CME) programme organised by the Department of Surgery, he said the Government had sanctioned sophisticated equipment such as laproscopy and C-arm for the hospital. The chairman, M. Kalyanasundaram, said nearly 280 delegates from the four southern States took part in the three-day CME programme. Experts in various fields of surgery would present papers during technical sessions and interactive sessions, according to a release.
