By Our Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM, FEB. 14. The Congress leader and former MLA, Younis Sultan, has said that the water-starved upland areas of Khammam district should be covered under the first phase of the Dummugudem lift irrigation (LI) scheme. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the LI scheme was proposed on the Godavari river main to meet the irrigation needs of farmers in the drought-prone pockets. Saying that the LI scheme was designed to suit to the needs of coastal districts, he said the districts of Krishna and West Godavari were included in the first phase along with the Sathupalli and Burgumpadu Assembly constituencies.
