SIRSI, FEB. 15. A meeting of the Uttara Kannada unit of the All-India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) was held at the unit leader, Venkatesh Hegde Hosabale's residence near here today. The party leader, Pramod Hegde Yellapur, said that there was confusion over the merger of the Janata Dal factions in the State. Though some leaders of AIPJD had joined other parties, the district unit should be united under the leadership of R.S. Naik. A committee of 10 members should be formed under the leadership of Mr. Naik to take steps to strengthen the party for the impending elections. He said that he had declined the offer by the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party to join them. The unit in the name of Uttara Kannada District Ramakrishna Hegde Party should fight the elections in the district.
