PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB 15 . The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, today said that the Government was committed to making the State the main education destination in India. The opening up of the education sector was the first step in this direction, he added. The Chief Minister was inaugurating the Cardio-Vascular Centre attached to the Mar Gregorios Mission Hospital at Parumala, near here. Mr. Antony said the opening up of the education sector would help to improve the quality of education, besides providing more educational opportunities in the State. He said the State Government would extend all help to the Mar Gregorios Medical Mission in setting up a modern medical college at Parumala. Mr. Antony said the Cardio-Vascular Centre at Parumala was the first of its kind to be set up in typical rural settings in the whole country. It has been set up as a joint venture of the Mar Gregorios Medical Mission and the Frontier Lifeline Private Ltd. headed by the noted cardio-thoracic surgeon, K.M. Cherian. The Catholicose of the East, Moran Mor Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews-II, presided over the function. The UDF convener, Oommen Chandy, inaugurated the colour Doppler and Treadmill Laboratory and the Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Cyriac Thomas, launched the Heart Care Foundation on the occasion. The former Tamil Nadu Governor, Fathima Beevi, inaugurated the Navathi celebrations of the Catholicose and the Catholicose Designate, Thomas Mar Themotheos, delivered the benedictory speech. Geevarghese Mar Osthatheos Metropolitan, Thomas Athanaseus Metropolitan, Christophorus Ramban, the Kollam Bishop, Stanley Roman, K.M.Cherian, the Malankara Orthodox Church secretary, Alexander Karackal, Ramesh Chennithala, Ms Elizabeth Mammen Mathai, MLA, Alexander Koodarathil and the hospital director, Alex Paul, also spoke.
