MANGALORE, FEB. 15. The President of the Kannada Development Authority (KDA), B.M. Idinabba, has taken exception to the statement by the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, B.K. Chandrashekar, in Gulbarga on Saturday that the State Government would introduce English as a subject in government primary schools from the first standard from the next academic year. Mr. Idinabba told The Hindu that he would not agree with the decision of the Government. The Government had not consulted the authority in this regard. He said If the Government went ahead with its decision it might affect the prominence of Kannada in the State. Mr. Idinabba said that he did not understand the policy of the Government. He had opposed such moves by the Government on earlier occasions. It was enough if the Government introduced English from the fifth standard.
