NOIDA, FEB. 15. Less than a fortnight of his rejoining the Bharatiya Janata Party, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, said today that the issue of temple construction at Ayodhya had not been given up and that it may figure in the party's soon-to-be-released "vision document.". "Jo yeh Ram mandir banne ka prashna hai, yeh BJP ne choda nahi hai (as far as the Ram temple construction is concerned, the party has not given up its stand)," Mr. Singh said. Mr. Singh, who is undertaking an election tour from here to his native Aligarh, said it was unlikely that anyone would have objections in including the temple issue in the "vision document." Mr. Singh was the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister at the time of the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. Echoing Mr. Singh's views, the former BJP State president, Kalraj Mishra, said in Kanpur that the construction of the Ram temple would be an issue in the Lok Sabha elections, besides the achievements of the National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre and the failure of the Samajwadi Party-led Government in the State. "There has been remarkable progress in negotiations (to resolve the temple issue) and Muslims were now taking it seriously," Mr. Mishra said.
