BANGALORE, FEB. 15. A snag on a high voltage direct current pole at Talcher (Orissa) on Sunday has forced Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. to resort to two-hour load shedding on Monday and Tuesday in the State. This was being done in view of the likely shortfall of 500 megawatt of power. "There is a problem with a lightning arrester on one of the two high voltage direct current poles on Talcher-Kolar line, carrying 2,000 megawatt of power," Vijayanarasimha, Chief Engineer at Load Despatch Centre of KPTCL here, said. If such protective equipment failed, it would not be possible to charge the line, he said. Though all other sources (such as the Raichur Thermal Power Station and the central generating units) were feeding the grid, power consumption peaked on Mondays. There would be load shedding of three hours in the morning and one hour in the evening. Asked how long it would take to sort out the problem, the official said: "If replacements are available, it will take a day."
