THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 15. The CPI(M) and CPI have come down heavily on the Government decision to reinstate police officials suspended in connection with the raid on several homes at Killi near here some months ago. The police had raided the homes at night after the local people attacked them on being detained for travel without helmets. In a statement here today, the CPI State secretary, Veliyam Bhargavan, said there was no justification for reinstatement of the officials because the DIG who had inquired into the incident had found officials to be guilty of the charges raised against them. The Kerala High Court also had rejected their petition seeking reinstatement. Under the circumstances, the Government's decision to cancel the suspension of the officials showed that the suspension of the police personnel was intended only to fool the people, he said. In a separate statement, the CPI(M) district secretary, M. Vijayakumar, said the Government action showed it would go to any length to save the police officials.
