By J. Venkatesan
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 16.
The Election Commission today completed its consultation on poll preparedness with 29 States and tomorrow it will hold discussions with officials of Jammu and Kashmir.
During today's meeting, presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner, T.S. Krishnamurthy, the States were told to strictly implement the model code of conduct when it came into force and were asked to report violations of the code and the election rules without "any delay, pressure or fear."
The commission will have a meeting with the Union Home Secretary, Anil Baijal, on February 19 regarding election preparedness in the Union Territories and review the security situation and deployment of paramilitary forces.
It will hold an all-party meeting on February 20 and thereafter it is expected to announce the poll schedule.
The commission has asked all State Governments to immediately fill up the vacancies of returning officers and other polling staff and comply with the directions regarding transfer of poll-related officials.
