Marad panel issues summons to CDA chief, others

KOZHIKODE, FEB. 16. The Marad Judicial Inquiry Commission has issued summons to examine the Calicut Development Authority (CDA) chairman and Kozhikode district treasurer of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), M. C. Mayin Haji, as part of its probe into the May 2 massacre at Marad.

Summons have also been issued to the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), P. Balan, the Kerala Union of Working Journalist (KUWJ) Kozhikode district president and Mathrubhumi News Editor, N. P. Rajendran, the New Indian Express Kozhikode chief reporter, M. P. Prashanth, and Kunnumayil Noufal, to be crossexamined before the Commission on February 26.

The Commission, Thomas P. Joseph, decided to issue summons based on the list of witnesses submitted by the Hindu Aikya Vedi's advocate, E. K. Santosh, at the sitting here today.

Mr. Santosh also sought examining the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdul Rahim, the former Kozhikode City Police Commissioner, Sanjeev Patjoshi, the Industries Minister, P. K. Kunhalikutty, the Electricity Minister, K. Muraleedharan, the Marad Araya Samajam secretary, T. Suresh, and the Hindu Aikya Vedi convener, Kummanam Rajashekaran.

However, the Commission said that if Mr. Santosh wanted to examine Mr. Kunhalikutty and Mr. Muraleedharan, he should file a petition before the Commission stating what all points on Marad incident are to be clarified by the Ministers.

Meanwhile, the Commission also opened the sealed documents containing the intelligence reports submitted by the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner, T. K. Vinod Kumar, the Assistant Police Commissioner (City Special Branch), M. T. Francis and the Dy.Sp. (State Special Branch), T. K. Rajmohan, in the afternoon.

After going through the intelligence reports, the Commission will submit a report to the High Court of Kerala.
