This Day That Age
The Ceylon Government are reported to be seriously considering measures to implement that part of the Delhi Agreement which deals with the expeditious disposal of some 265,000 citizenship applications, filed by the estate workers of Indian origin. Eight special officers to supervise the progress of disposal of these applications are to be appointed by the end of this month and Treasury sanction for these appointments has already been obtained. The Commissioner for Registration, who disclosed this on February 16, said these officers would make surprise visits to estates and find out whether the investigations of citizenship claims of workers were properly done.
