dated February 18, 1954: Tribute to R.K. Mission

Mr. T. Sundaram Chettiar, Director of Sri Meenakshi Mills, presiding, the centenary of Saradamani Devi was celebrated on February 11 at the Meenakshi Talkies in Madurai. The students of Vivekananda Vidyalaya staged a drama in Tamil entitled "Thavaputhalvar." Mr. Ramakrishnan, headmaster of the school, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Sundaram Chettiar in the course of his speech paid a tribute to the services rendered by the Ramakrishna Mission. He pointed out that there was historical evidence to show that, in the past, Buddhist and Jain missionaries, both men and women, had been rendering yeoman service to the community, not only in the field of education and moral and spiritual instruction, but in the sphere of health and medicine. He expressed the hope that the work done by the Ramakrishna Mission would spread and benefit a large number of people. Swami Chitbhavananda addressing the gathering stressed the need for social service so that the community might progress.

He spoke of the work done by Saradamani Devi for the welfare of the community.
