Cricket
By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI, FEB. 17. Former England captain Graham Gooch, who is associated with the World Cricket Academy (WCA) camp at the Cricket Club of India (CCI), said he is looking forward to the Test series between India and Pakistan. "It will be a local Derby so to speak. I think it's great. India and Pakistan are two of the most talented sides in the world. There's been great rivalry in the past. It should produce a feast of good cricket for not only the people of India and Pakistan, but also for cricket lovers all over the world. I am sure people are delighted it's going to take place again.'' Currently coach of the Essex County, Gooch is here along with his assistant at Chelmsford, John Childs and former England off spinner and at present coach of Middlesex County, John Emburey. After retiring in 1997, Gooch was England selector and coach before he took charge of the Essex County side two years ago. He said the purpose of the nine-day camp at the CCI was to help the young England players improve their technique against spin bowling. James Foster (7 Tests and 11 LOIs), William Jefferson (both Essex), Varun Chopra and Zoheb Shariff (Essex Seconds), Jeremy Snape (10 LOIS, Leicestershire), Ed Joyce and Chris Peploe and James Dalrymple (all Middlesex) are here for the camp organised by the WCA founded by former Mumbai player Zubin Bharucha. Four players from Gloucestershire, two from Lancashire and one from Nottinghamshire will arrive for the second camp to start on March 1. The WCA has invited India's Hanumant Singh, Nari Contractor and Erapalli Prasanna to assist Gooch, Emburey and Childs.
