Vijayawada
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 17. The Tamil Nadu Governor, P. S. Ramamohan Rao, on Tuesday said that the world had turned into a knowledge society and India had developed into a reservoir of knowledge. Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of Montessori Mahila Kalasala here, Mr. Rao said "brain power'', which was available in abundance in India, had played a vital role in transforming the country's agriculture society into the present era of information technology. "The world will witness a revolution in the field of bio-technology in the next 15 to 20 years,'' he predicted pointing out that bio-technology had come to occupy centre stage. Recalling his childhood days in Vijayawada and his close association with the college, Mr. Rao said he took pride in the fact that three of his siblings pursued their education in this institution which had grown in strength and stature, brick by brick. "The seed sown in 1955 grew to become a full-fledged tree extending its shade and fruits to the people of the city,'' he said. Mr. Rao recalled that `Bezawada' was known as `Blazewada' for its hot climate. "It was also called an `intellectual Sahara'. But, the place has now undoubtedly developed into an `intellectual delta','' he maintained. Referring to the long-cherished wish of the college's director and correspondent, V. Koteswaramma, on attaining a deemed university status for the institution, he urged the `influential' senior citizens in the city to help the college authorities remove hurdles, if any, in translating its dream into a reality. The former Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University, K. Raja Ramamohan Rao, underscored the need to keep the temples of learning away from the evils of corruption and communalism. The Director of All India Council for Technical Education, southern region, M. Ravichandran, appealed to parents to allow youngsters to dream and help them achieve them. The Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University, L. Venugopal Reddy, presided while the district Collector, K. Prabhakar Reddy, the Secretary of Higher Education, K. Ambarish, and the Governor's wife, Uma Rao, were present. Gold medals were presented to meritorious students of the college.
