GADAG, FEB. 17. Steps have been taken to prevent animal sacrifice at Gajendragad on Wednesday as part of a jatra. The jatra is being held once in five years, and the local temple committee has urged people not to sacrifice animals. The district administration has banned animal sacrifice during the jatra and deployed policemen in the town as a precautionary measure. A similar jatra will be held at Donnegudda village in Kushatgi taluk of Koppal district on February 22. Inspired by the success in preventing animal sacrifice in Gadag district on February 8 and 16, the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Koppal have taken steps to do so in the district during the jatra. A meeting between the district administration and the Prani Bali Tade Sangha will be held on Thursday.
