Shimoga
By Our Special Correspondent
SHIMOGA, FEB. 17. The Youth Congress workers staged a unique demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the economic policies of the Centre. They sat in the Gopi Circle and polished shoes. They alleged that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had failed to keep its promise of create one crore jobs every year. The demonstrators alleged that the NDA Government had failed on all fronts. Prices had increased steeply making the life of the common man miserable. The Youth Congress activists took exception to the Government's failure to take any action against the Bharatiya Janata Party State unit President, H.N. Ananth Kumar, for his alleged role in the HUDCO scandal. They took an oath to free the country from the clutches of the communal forces which were responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Ravikumar, President of the Shimoga district unit of the Youth Congress Committee, led the demonstration. B.A. Ramesh Hegde, President of Shimoga City Municipal Council, and M.K. Sureshkumar, former president of the Council, participated in the agitation.
