Stamp scam: CBI to take over three cases

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, FEB. 17. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will shortly take over three cases pertaining to the circulation of fake stamp papers in the State.

The cases to be taken over by the CBI pertain to those registered in the Begumbazar Police Station and the Detective Department in Hyderabad and another on registered in Visakhapatnam city. Presently, the specially constituted Andhra Pradesh Stamps Investigation Team (APSIT) is investigating into these cases.

According to the Director-General of Police, S.R. Sukumara, the CBI wanted to know what cases it should take over and the Government preferred to hand over the three cases out of nine registered in the State, since these three cases were believed to have wider ramifications. A communication to this was also sent to the CBI, after the Central agency asked for the opinion of the Government.

The Andhra Pradesh SIT had already arrested an IPS officer K. Narasimha Rao, who headed the Hyderabad Detective Department.
