ADILABAD, FEB. 17. The Mudhole Mandal Praja Parishad president, Madhav Rao Desai, suffered bleeding injuries after unidentified persons placed barbed wire before waylaying him near Machkal crossroads on the Mudhole-Bhainsa main road, in the early hours of today. The Nirmal DSP, Vidyasagar Rao, told The Hindu on the phone from Bhainsa that the MPP chief was returning on his motorcycle to Mudhole from Bhainsa after midnight when four unidentified persons believed to be a robber gang, placed barbed wire across the road and raised it when they saw the approaching vehicle. The MPP president, who could not see the barbed wire, fell down after the sharp wire pierced his neck. Mr. Desai suffered severe bleeding injuries and fell down on the roadside. Prior to waylaying the MPP president, the offenders targeted three persons coming from Mudhole to Chinchala village. They adopted a similar method and relieved them of their cash. The trio were forced to sit with the robber gang till the next victim arrived. After the Mudhole MPP chief was waylaid, the trio were let off. They rushed to Mudhole outpost and alerted the police personnel. A police patrol vehicle, which rushed to the spot found Mr. Desai lying unconscious. He was provided first aid and rushed to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences at Hyderabad, where his condition is reportedly stable. A mobile phone belonging to the MPP chief was missing. Mr. Vidyasagar Rao said two special teams each headed by the Mudhole CI, Sukumar Reddy, and Bhainsa CI, Sadanand Singh, were rushed to Dharmabad and Bhokar areas of Nanded district in neighbouring Maharashtra. The police picked up vital clues and are working on the case. The DSP along with the Mudhole CI and Bhainsa SI, Purshottam Reddy, and Kubeer SI, David, visited the spot.
