Differences between TDP leaders to the fore again

By our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Feb. 17. The differences between the former Tirupati MLA, Chadalavada Krishnamurthy, and the Tirupati Municipal Chairperson, K. Sankar Reddy -- both belonging to the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) - came to the fore yet again at the party meeting held today to discuss the strategy for the sensitive Tirupati constituency during the coming elections.

The party's observer, Vanga Geetha, and the district party convenor, Rameshchandra Prasad, were said to have been present when the acrimonious scenes took place.

Interestingly, the differences came to the fore in less than a day after the Chief Minister left the district after warning his rank and file to desist from group rivalries. Party sources said that trouble was sparked when the former MLA reportedly took objection to the Municipal Chairman trying to take all the credit for the several developmental works that had been undertaken in the town during his speech earlier.

Sources further said that the former MLA sought to ascribe all the developments to the meticulous care that the Chief Minister himself had taken. It was not due to "anybody's'' greatness, he was said to have told the meeting.

While Mr. Sankar Reddy chose not to join issue with Mr. Krishnamurthy and further precipitate the matter, his close aide, Neelam Balaji, took the cudgels against the former MLA, leading to heated exchanges between the two.
