PONDICHERRY, FEB. 17. Malladi Krishna Rao, an Independent from Yanam, began a padayatra from the region to Vijayawada on Monday. Sources close to the legislator here said Mr. Rao was covering 250 km on foot along with a batch of 400 volunteers. He would reach Vijayawada on February 23 and pray at the shrine of Kanaga Durga. The yatra was a thanksgiving programme to the Goddess for the successful implementation of various schemes for the development of the region during 2002-2003. The important work being implemented was a Rs. 5.5-crore indoor stadium. The marketing committee chairman, Kondabalu, and the cooperative stores president, Yanam Sirajudeen, are also participating in the yatra.
