BANGALORE, FEB. 17. Several residents of Basavanagudi, under the banner of National College Flyover Action Committee, on Tuesday staged a protest at the site of the flyover coming up at the National College junction on Vanivilas Road. The flyover construction, which they are against, has reached the halfway mark. The demonstration was one of several staged since the flyover project was announced; some residents have been making fervent appeals to the State Government and the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to give up the project. H.S. Doreswamy, freedom fighter, who was among the protestors, said there was no need for a flyover at the road junction. The construction was causing noise and air pollution. Once the flyover was completed, there would be no room for pedestrians, he said. National College Circle was only one part of a chain of intersections, and one flyover would not ease traffic congestion.
