PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB. 17. The District Superintendent of Police, Dinendra Kashyap, today suspended two policemen attached to the Pathanamthitta Police Station for assaulting a Reporter of the Kerala Kaumudi on Monday. Those suspended were the driver, Raju and constable, Vijayankutty. The Station House Officer, Ashok Kumar, has been shifted from the station for alleged lapses in preventing the assault. The policemen allegedly assaulted Sam Chempakathil when he reached the police station to enquire about a case. While coming out of the station, he was again roughed up by some other policemen without any provocation. He was also kept in custody till the Mr. Kashyap intervened on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ). The KUWJ immediately sent fax messages to the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police demanding action against the policemen.
