Central Zone has the edge

PALAKKAD, FEB. 17. Central Zone enjoys a small edge as it takes on West in the final of the four-day Vinoo Mankad Trophy National under-19 inter-zone cricket championship at the Fort Maidan here from Wednesday.

After having played both its last two matches, the quarterfinal and semifinal, here, Central should be quite familiar with the Fort Maidan wicket while for West, the final will be its first match in Palakkad. West had played its Vinoo Mankad opener, the semifinal against East, in Kochi.

West will also miss the services of top run-getter, Rakesh Solanki, who has left for Dhaka for the under-19 World Cup. Baroda Ranji star Rakesh, who led the team in the semifinal, had scored a century and a half century in Kochi.

"Of course, Rakesh's absence will be a big miss, but we have a strong batting line-up,'' said Hemant Pandya, the West coach.

The teams (from):

West Zone: Parag Madaikar (captain), Sumeet Pawar, Chetan Padiyar, Parag More, Rakesh Kanojia, Yogesh Takawale (wk), Pragnesh Patel, Arif Sunasara, Omkar Ganpate, Vikrant Yelligate, Ratnesh Bhosale, Rujul Bhat, Kunjan Fadia. Manager: Hemant Pandya.

Alam, Shivakant Shukla, Shalab Shrivastava, Arvind Mann, Vinod Chanwaria, Praveen Kumar, Avinash Yadav, Akshay Wakhare, Mohammed Hashim, Rohit Gupta, Vivek Yadav, Jalaj Saxena, Jitendra Baghel.
