Three nabbed, booty worth Rs. 3.25 lakhs recovered

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI, FEB. 17. Three alleged dacoits including two belonging to the notorious Stewartpuram gang were nabbed by crime sleuths and goods worth about Rs. 3.25 lakhs recovered.

According to the Chittoor SP, M.V. Ramachandra ,Raju the three were involved in two major offences that took place almost in a row late last month sending shock-waves through Tirupati.

The duo allegedly from the Stewartpuram gang -- Pooli Arun (36) and Chavata Chinnodu (54) -- were wanted in connection with a daring robbery they had committed in the house of a top executive of a leading Tirupati-based ceramic tiles unit. The duo had broken into the house after removing the window-grill on the night of January 24 and decamped with 250 gm. of gold, two cell phones and two wristwatches after threatening the executive's wife and servant maid at knife point.

Excited over the suspected involvement of hardcore Stewartpuram criminals in the offence, police led by the Circle Inspector of the Central Crime Station, K. Narasimhulu, swung into action and fanned in batches in different directions before they tracked down the duo this morning on the Tirupati-Mangalam road on the outskirts of Tirupati.

The cops recovered from the duo, 210 gm. of gold, a cell phone and wristwatches even as the hunt is on to nab two more of the same gang -- Munga Sudhakar and Munga Nagaraj -- who are still at large.

The other criminal nabbed today in connection with another offence was Mahaveer Singh (21) belonging to Hanuman Garh in Rajastan who sneaked into a private tourist bus parked at the TTD's III Choultry here and decamped with cash to the tune of Rs. one lakh and 50 gm. of gold.
