CHENNAI, FEB. 16. It was a nostalgic trip for 17 elderly men, who, accompanied by their spouses and grandchildren, spent a quiet Saturday evening bonding, talking and even singing. Getting together after half a century could indeed be an overwhelming experience. Something which very few can merely dream of. The old boys from the 1954 batch of BA/MA Economics of the Loyola College had come a long way. Many of them had not met any of their batch mates since they left college. Thanks to year-long efforts by B.K. Sreenivas and K.K. Mathrubutham, the boys came together. Seventeen of the total 28 students managed to make it. "In some cases, it took us more than 50 telephone calls to reach our friends. Six or seven of our batchmates are no more, three are abroad and one is indisposed," they said. Prominent among the participants were former tennis ace Ramanathan Krishnan; former Ambassador to Iran and Italy, Akbar Mirza Khaleeli; former Ambassador to Egypt and Mexico Pascal Alan Nazareth, and former Special Director (Marketing) of the Union Group and Chief Executive of Ucal Exports, Sreenivas. All of them had nothing but appreciation for the quality of education they received at the Loyola. The theme of the golden jubilee get-together: "Take the association to the third generation."
