CHENNAI, FEB. 17. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Vision Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, and Waseda University, Japan, for a research project, `the use of mebiol gel in the cultivation of cells and viral infections,' was signed here on February 9. The gel was developed by Yuichi Mori of the Waseda University. The Sankara Nethralaya has carried out a study to determine the influence exerted by the gel on the growth of the standard continuous tissue and cell cultures maintained in the tissue culture laboratory. According to a release, the gel is found to have selective effect in allowing the growth of cells outside its own environment, the method can be used for growing cells from organ tissues.
