VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 17. The enforcement of regulations on parking seem to have gone for a toss in the city, suggesting the need to sensitise the people to park their vehicles on the areas earmarked for it. The failure to follow rules despite the fact that places earmarked for parking of vehicles are not in proportionate to the increasing demand, speaks of the sorry state affairs. For instance, on the beach road, a huge area has been earmarked for parking near YMCA. Still, many are in the habit of parking their vehicles -- two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers -- on an area not allotted for parking. Some even park right in front of coffee kiosks. Consequently, the road blockade caused due to erratic parking is causing inconvenience to many. Another area of concern is charging of parking fee at Kali temple junction. To avoid this, many people park their vehicles wherever they find space convenient to them. As per an estimate made by the traffic police, about one lakh people throng the beach to have some recreation on week-ends and public holidays. Notwithstanding the fact that after T.S.R. Prasad, took over as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (traffic), a serious effort has been made to ensure orderly traffic at various places, many feel that a little extra effort should be made to sensitise the people particularly teenagers on following traffic regulations.
