KOCHI, FEB. 17. The national vice-president of the CITU and the State president of KSEB Workers' Association, E. Balanandan, said today that the right to strike was equivalent to the right to life and that it was the legitimate means to collective bargaining. Mr. Balanandan was inaugurating the district-level convention of Leftist trade unions at the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on Tuesday morning ahead of the all-India general strike on February 24. The convention was organised to explain the reasons behind the call for the general strike and to appeal to the trade unions to make the strike a success. Mr. Balanandan refuted the contention that once the Electricity Bill 2003 came into effect, it would be imperative on the part of the State Governments to privatise power utilities in the States.
