Held on charges of forgery, theft

KOCHI, FEB. 17. The police arrested Madhu of Sidhapuram, Karnataka, on charges of forgery and stealing money from a music shop where he had been employed as a security guard. A police team led by the Assistant Commissioner, V. G. Sasidharan, made the arrest. The arrested person was later produced before a court, which remanded him for a fortnight.

Water supply disruption

The distribution of drinking water to Vypeen, Mulavukad, Panambukaad, Vallarpadam and Njarakkal islands will be disrupted on February 19 and 20 on account of re-laying of some pipelines that carry water to the Vypeen region from Pachalam pump house, said a statement issued by the Kerala Water Authority Assistant Executive Engineer.

Telephone adalat

A telephone adalat for long-pending complaints from the Ernakulam and Idukki revenue districts, which had exhausted all normal channels of redressal, will be held during March. Customers who have complaints on service matters and bills can send their complaints to the Assistant General Manager (MIS), Office of the PGMT, BSNL Bhavan, Kochi The date of the adalat will be intimated to customers.

Complaint to Ombudsman

The West Kochi-based Bahujana Vedi is to petition the Ombudsman regarding the reluctance of the civic authorities to clean the clogged drains of the area. The Vedi will also organise a signature campaign in this regard, said a statement issued by the organisation.

Procession held

The joint action council of the bank employees today took out a procession as a prelude to the February 24 strike, demanding the reinstatement of the right to strike, wage revision and correction of the `wrong' economic and labour policies. The bank unions, AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA and BEFI, took part in the procession. The State committee of the Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Association has also decided to participate in the strike. However, the INTUC will not join the proposed strike, said a statement issued by the union State secretary, V. P. George.
