BANGALORE, FEB. 17. A 37-year-old security guard who was posted at the Balmuri Ganesh Temple on West of Chord Road in Kamakshipalya police stations limits was murdered in the early hours of Tuesday. The police identified him as Devaraju from Gullenahalli near Hosur in Tamil Nadu. According to the police, the assailant approached Devaraju, picked a quarrel with him, and attacked him with a rod. He then pushed Devaraju, who fell into a ditch and suffered an injury on his head. Srinivasa, another security guard, was with Devaraju during the incident which occurred at 3 a.m. Kamakshipalya police are investigating the case. Women cheated: Two unidentified persons impersonating policemen cheated Susheelamma (68) of NAL Layout in Jayanagar of her gold ornaments worth about Rs. 30,000 in Tilaknagar police limits on Tuesday afternoon. Susheelamma was walking towards a vegetable market on 29th Cross, Jayanagar 9th Block, when a man dressed in police uniform approached her and cautioned her against wearing expensive jewellery. He offered to wrap the jewellery in paper and took her to his associate who was waiting at a distance. Susheelamma handed over four gold bangles, a gold chain, and a ring. The two men packed pebbles in paper, gave it to her, and left in an autorickshaw, the police said. Fatal accident: A motorcyclist, Lokesh (28) of Maruthi Layout in Ramamurthynagar, died when he was knocked down by a mini lorry on Suranjan Das Road in Byappanahalli police station limits on Monday night. Indiranagar traffic police have seized the mini lorry and arrested the driver. Bid to fell tree foiled: An attempt to fell a sandalwood tree in Jnanabharathi police station limits was foiled on Monday night. The police said four persons were trying to fell a sandalwood tree at a farmhouse at Papareddypalya when a person alerted the police. When the beat constables reached the spot, the culprits fled in a car. Jnanabharathi police have registered a case. Youths arrested: Madiwala police have arrested five Gorkhas on the charge of stealing Rs. 32,890 in cash from a private company office on 40th Main Road, BTM 2nd Stage. They have been identified as Kumar Thapa (25), Rajesh Kumar Thapa (18), Lal Bahadur (22), Chandra Thapa (18), and Deepak Bahadur (18), all from West Nepal. They were employed as watchmen, the police said.
