KURNOOL, FEB. 18. The depleting water level in the Srisailam reservoir has caused anxiety among irrigation officials and public. As on Wednesday, the level in the reservoir stood at 792.4 ft accounting for a storage of 48.4 tmcft. The irrigation officials said they had been instructed to release 12 to 14 tmcft at the rate of 6,000 cusecs to downstream projects. The release which started on February 16 would be completed in ten days. After fulfilling the release, the level in the reservoir would decline to 773 ft. The irrigation officials said they would not be able to supply water to Srisailam township if the level declined beyond 755 ft. Power generation at both right and left stations was stopped following depletion of water level.
