VIZIANAGARAM, FEB. 18. Mahasivaratri was celebrated with devotion in the district on Wednesday. Devotees thronged various Siva temples since early hours and offered prayers. The main attraction, however, was Punyagiri in S. Kota mandal and Ramatheerthalu in Nellimarla mandal where thousands of devotees from all over the district and neighbouring Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts stood in serpentine queues to offer prayers to the presiding deities - Uma Koti Lingeswara Swamy and Sri Rama - respectively. The Uma Koti Lingeswara Swamy temple in Punyagiri, tucked in Eastern Ghats, 4 km from S. Kota and 35 km from here, is one of the ancient Siva temples in the north Andhra coastal districts.
