Some titanium rings recovered

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, FEB. 18. The city police made a breakthrough on Wednesday, recovering some of the titanium alloy rings worth Rs. 22.5 lakhs stolen from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) facility here on February 12. A senior police official said some persons had been arrested and details of the investigation would be disclosed on Thursday.

The 29 lightweight rings were reported missing by personnel of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre of the ISRO where they had been brought a week earlier from the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. About 85 per cent of structural components of space shuttles and aircraft are made of titanium.Since the titanium rings went missing from the highly guarded premises, the Police Commissioner's media conference on Thursday is expected to throw light on how the theft could have happened.
